Change in History Fair dates, so pay attention and look at the calender Products due next Monday (1/26). There is no terms quiz this week! We all know how they sneak up so keep your eyes open for the Thursday (1/29) quiz #16.
Tuesday, January 20, 2009 A. Pfund 2nd Period Today we did not take a whole lot of notes, but we did go over a lot of what was said last week. We went over the "Shoving Slavery Down the Throat of a Freesoiler" picture and then we went over the small slips of paper that we were given last week or the week before; they had opposing viewpoints (North vs South) and we got into the group opposite of whatever viewpoint we had (North with a South). The groups then presented their topic and read aloud the thesis statements for the viewpoints. Some of the topics included the Fugative Slave Law, Uncle Tom's Cabin, the Ostend Manifesto, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, Bleeding Kansas, and the Dred Scott Decision. After we went over those we read the documents on our desk and partnered up with whoever had the other set of documents, to make a complete set. Several were shown on the projector. I believe that Ms McCarron said we were going to write an essay about them, so pay attention! History Fair packets (cover page, process paper and bibliography) are due Thursday and the rest is due Monday. Good Luck!
Wednesday, January 21, 2009 A. Pfund 2nd period Today there were two pickups at the door, a blue one that we wrote on and a legal sized one that we didn't; both were passed foward at the end of class. We used the documents on our desks and our partner's documents to fill out question 1, and then the two example essays on the legal sheets to help out more. We then did part 2, a sample answer to the essay question, 45-50 words long. Part 3 was a peer review of our answer, and parts 4 and 5 were revised answers, 20 words exactly. No real notes, just working on the essay question. Remember that the Process paper, title page and annotated bibliography are due tomorrow!
Today, Ms. McCarron was out and Mr. Sinski filled in for her. There were two pick-ups at the door; one pick-up had questions on it pertaining to Part 1 of the video the class watched on the Civil War. The second was a map which had to be marked with the battles, major cities, and line between the Union and Confederacy during the Civil War period. But before the class completed these two sheets, we first sketched and annotated an image titled "The First Vote" which depicted black men casting their first ballots. The three main black men in the image each had a different status; one, a worker and the others a solider and businessman all under the American flag.
- Process papers and annotated bibliographies were due today! If you were absent, be sure to turn in three copies of it, all with a title page. - Final History Fair project is due Monday, Jan. 26 so be prepared. - Terms List #16 is due Thursday, Jan. 29 and, of course, quiz on that same day. - School History Fair is also on that Thursday, so everyone get excited!
Thursday, January 20, 2009 G. Mitchell 2nd Period We were also supposed to label major rivers on the map handout. We will finish the movie tomorrow. Mr. Sperling was there; he supervised the class.
Also on Tuesday we talked about the idea of popular sovereignty in the territories, which ticked off some people, but Anne has it pretty much covered. History fair by 1/26
David Kay REviewer Wednesday The key to the pretty much thesis sentence answer that we did was just to answer all the parts of the question. I don't really remember what the question exactly asked, but it was evaluating the validity of a statement that the constitution caused the secession and the Civil War. remember AP Doomsday: 1/26/09
Today there were two pick-ups at the door; a DBQ and a green sheet that will help you to construct a well written essay. We finished the last bit of the video and then began on the green sheets. Mr. Sinski passed around notecards which summarized and gave inferences for each of the documents of the DBQ. We wrote important details on things that would be helpful on the green sheet and switched notecards with students for different document summaries. We were supposed to finish the entirety of the sheet before class ended, but didn't. Instead, we took it for homework; Ms. McCarron expects to see perfect first paragraphs for the essay, if not, an entire essay by Monday (I'm not completely sure, so don't blame me. I very much dislike vague instructions).
- Continue working on your History Fair projects. Remember, final products are due Monday, Jan. 26!
- Terms List 16 is due Thrusday, Jan. 29 with, obviously, the quiz on the same day.
Hope everyone had a good and productive weekend. - The introductive paragraph for the green sheet is due tomorrow, Jan. 26. - The final products for History Fair are, too, due tomorrow. Work hard tonight. - IDQ #16 is on Thursday, Jan. 29 as is the school History Fair. Be prepared.
Sunday, January 25, 2009 G. Mitchell 2nd Period Reviewer History fair projects are due tomorrow. Be prepared to further assess the documents for the DBQ.

I don't remember being told the entire essay might be due Monday. By first paragraphs I think Jonathan means introductory paragraphs.
