Today in class we talked a little bit about the Battle at Little Big Horn in 1876. We talked A LOT about General Armstrong Custer. He graduated last in his class at West Point, gained rank in the military during the civil war and after the civil war his rank/status was reduced. We also talked about the Indians, including Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. We talked about the final battle in 1890 in the Dakota's. That battle is known as the Battle of Wounded Knee or Massacre At Wounded Knee. [Also: We looked at a picture by Kicking Bear in which the hooves on the horses were backwards,it meant they were dead]
We also discussed Helen Hunt Jackson's book published, A Century of Dishonor. Also discussed was the Carlisle schools that brought Indian Children to be educated and civilized. We also differentiated between the Dawes Severalty Act and the Dawes plan so that we would not get them confused. The Dawes severalty act was in 1887 and was that the US gives any family that gives up civilization a piece of farming land. It was intended to assimilate. The Dawes Plan was between England, France, Germany and the US. Basically, England and France had borrowed money from the US and Germany had borrowed money from England and France but couldn't pay it back so the US gives Germany the money to pay England and France back but the US never gets its money back.
Finally, we ended class listening to a second source which was a song from the 1950's. It was about 7th Calvary and custers troops begging them not to make them go and about redskins going to take the troops hair(scalping). We also sang along with it, but we are finishing it tomorrow. BRING YOUR VOCAL CHORDS.
AND REMEMBER: HF Projects are due Wednesday OR Thursday by 7:15 and process papers were due by 7:20 this morning or if you turned them in this past friday. Finish up your projects and have them ready to turn in. Also maybe start on your new terms list because I'm pretty sure those will be Tuesday and getting a few done each night will alleviate the amount of stress you would have if you wait til the last minute.
Kristen Sikora Monday Februray 7,2011 Hope you all had a great weekend! Today in class we quickly began with our continuing lecture how the white man was forcing out the Indians and the assimilation process that occurred after. Lecture took up most of the class period but, we ended class using our VOCAL CORDS! and sang a song about General Custer "Please Mr. Custer, Please Dont Make Me Go!" I thought we did quite a good job! That sums up the class period.
DO NOT FORGET HISTORY FAIR IS DUE WEDNESDAY! (except for Rachel Schaffer, yours is due Tuesday) Good luck to everyones projects! Cant wait to see them.
Hello Everyone! Happy Tuesday! Today in class many people were missing because of the math test going on in the media center. But without them we began class with a revival of "Please Mr. Custer!" That sure woke us up! We then proceded with the continuing lecture, we moved on to miners and the "Boom" and "Ghost" towns. Class abrubtly ended because we were on Pep Rally schedule.
Remember to pick up your terms NB if you didnt at the end of class!
REMEBER HISTORY FAIR IS DUE TOMORROW!!!!!! hope no one is pulling an all nighter! Good Luck!
Hello APUSHers! Today was the History Fair due date! In celebration of the end of History Fair, we took notes of course! The topic of the notes was mostly dealing with the miners and how they influenced the U.S. economically and socially, along with the many foreigners, especially the Chinese, that were in the mining business. If you weren't here, remember to borrow someone's notes from class!
If you didn't turn in History Fair you have until school starts tomorrow morning!
This morning was your absolute last chance to turn in your History Fair! Hopefully everyone got them turned in. We quickly reviewed the notes from yesterday on the miners and Ms. McCarron lectured about the Cowboys and their economic impact. We then took notes on how their short era ended with a scorching summer and devastating winter. You don't want to miss these notes!
Also, we have our terms quiz on chapter 19 on Tuesday next week so it wouldn't be a bad idea to start them!
Tina Phan Friday February 11, 2011 This friday was sang songs about cowboys. We then wrapped up the cowboy era. We started taking notes on industrialization, free enterprise system, and the big "robber barons" of that time.
Tina Phan Sunday February 13, 2011 Next week, we will have a terms test on terms list number 17 (chapter 19) on tuesday. Better start on those terms, and have a great weekend!!
Jackie did a great job summarizing what happened during the 9th. Hopefully everyone turned in their awesome History Fair projects.
We did took notes on the miners and learned that people in American feared the foreigners, the Chinese, and that the Chinese know all about the use of explosives.
Jackie reminded us that History Fair was due this morning. Hopefully people did not forget. She summarized the day well. We had a lecture on how the Cowboy Era ended abruptly when a terrible 3-week blizzard occurred when the cowboys had their long drives.
Remember Ch. 19 terms quiz this coming Tuesday so hopefully you all worked on your Terms list during the weekend!
