Monday 1/17- Rachel Shaeffer
Today is our day off! Remember to take time and thank MLK for this amazing holiday. Just because we get another day does not mean we should forget about APUSH however. Tomorrow we have terms list 15 due as well as a quiz. Also, be working on History Fair, the deadline is coming up sooner than you think. The class made an executive decision to opt out of the quiz on History Fair rules, so don't worry about that. The next deadline is a rough draft due on 1/25. Make sure to get some work done but have a great holiday! :)
Tuesday 1/18- Rachel Shaeffer
To start off the four day week, we had a terms quiz on list 15. The clickers refused to work again so we were forced to take it on paper. After the quiz we resumed taking notes on the 1850s and events leading up to the civil war. We went over the rest of the timeline and looked at some primary sources from the time period. Some of the topics we discussed include the Brooks-Sumner Affair, the Compromise of 1850, the Lincoln-Douglas debates and the new political party system. This period of Reconstruction is key on the AP exam. Tomorrow we will be continuing these notes and may take a look at some more documents relating to the topics.
Friday, 1/21/11,
Luxi Qiao, 2nd period.
Ms. McCarron was not here today, so Mr. Rice gave us our assignments. The first one is two sample essays for the essay question we looked at yesterday. We had to answer some questions about these two essays, and the assignment need to be finished by Monday. The second assignment is a map with a list of major civil war battle sites and other important geographic marks. We had to find the location of each site and mark them on the map, and we also had to list the year of each battle and which side won in each battle. This is also due on Monday.
In the end, Mr. Rice talked to us about some of the advantages and disadvantages of the Confederacy and the Union.
We also got our terms notebooks back.
Reminders: History Fair first draft is due next Tuesday, so is the next terms list.

I think Rachel did a thorough job on her blog for Monday. She started the blog off with mentioning MLK day and did a good job mentioning alot of reminders for the class that are cruical espically things dealing with schedule changes and history fair. Godd job Rachel!

Wednesday 1/19
Breanna Maldonado
Today we continued notes on the Lincoln-Douglass debates, the Raid on Harpers' Ferry, and Lincoln's election. We also discussed an essay question: "The Constitution was a source of disunity and discord from the period 1850-1861" Assess the validity of this statement. We also were given documents to read tonight that were part of the DBQ. Tomorrow we will get in groups and discuss the essay more.
Thursday 1/20

Everyone should have read the documents they received and written down relevant outside information. Today we got into groups with others who had different documents so that each group had all the documents belonging to the DBQ question we discussed Wednesday (1/19). Each group came up with different categories for the essay. We used the notes from the past few days to help us come up with these groups.

Reminders for next week:
Map worksheet and sample essay worksheet is due Monday. The quiz next Tuesday is canceled, and we are NOT turning in the notebooks. Unit Test is on Friday.Lastly, we don't have to turn in a draft for history fair, but don't leave all your work till the last minute.
