Happy Labor Day! Take today to relax and enjoy this mini break! You know it's gonna be work work work tomorrow morning!
Tomorrow we have a quiz on the terms for chapter 29 (pg. 905) and make sure you read the chapter. You never know if there are going to be reading questions! Ms. McCarron will be taking up our terms notebooks so make sure you've done them and study study study! Please don't be that kid who is rushing to cram all 20-some terms into his brain with two minutes left until the quiz!
Oh and remember your notebooks. We will be taking notes after the quiz! :)
Materials Distributed: McBlogging Assignments and Take Home Test (due 09/09)
Class Activities: Attempted to take the quiz electronically but it malfunctioned again. Took the quiz on paper instead. After the quiz we took more notes defining 1st, 2nd, and 3rd World countries. We began discussing 4th World countries when the bell rang.
Today we took our quiz on chapter 29 terms. That's all I have to say about that...
After the quiz we took some notes on first, second, and third worlds. We went over how to blog for the class blog and Ms. McCarron gave us our first take home test! yay! It's due Thursday 9/9 and remember to write the page numbers in the blank next to the number, not the answer!
Don't wait until the last minute on Wednesday to do your test! Do it and be done with it!
Today we talked about how to distinguish between first, second, third, and fourth world countries. We also looked at some factors that cause nations to be part of the fourth world, like low per capita income, lack of resources, and natural disasters.
At the end of class our terms notebooks were returned to us (the quiz on list three is 9/14). Also, tomorrow is the due date for the first part of out take home test.
First, we finished our discussion about the different worlds. Then we talked about the political spectrum, ranging all the way from radicals on the far left to reactionaries on the far right. We then covered levels of questioning and examined the literal meaning of a political cartoon.
Towards the end of class, the first part of each of our take-home tests was collected. The quiz on terms list three is quickly approaching(9/14), so you'd better get started.
First we recieved our super top secret passwords for our Parent Portals since ALL OF THE PASSWORDS HAVE BEEN RESET. Then we discussed terrorism in the recet past. We discussed the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center by Al Qaeda that did explode but did not collapse the building. Then we discussed the bombing of an Ohio federal building in 1995 that was actually commited by an unhappy American citizen. We moved onto the Collumbine Massacre, also known as the Trench Coat Massacre, in which two American teenagers killed many students at their highschool. Terrorism is often assosiated with foreigners, but really it can be commited by American citizens too.
REMINDERS: Quiz 9/14. There are 3 chapters, 29 terms, and 8 graphics that you have to do. Do not procrastinate.
Before Ms. McCarron started today's lesson, she handed in our Parent Portal password and username. After we recieved our super secret codes, we went on to discuss the important current events during Our Lifetime. The first was of bombing of the World Trade Center by the Al Qaeda in 1993. The second was the bombing of the Alfres Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995 which people thought was by the Al Qaeda. Instead, the bombing was done by an American who didn't like what the Government was doing. While discussing these two bombings, we touched on the subjects of the Waco Siege (1993) and the Ruby Ridge (1992). The last current event we talked about was the Columbine Massacre where two high school teenagers came to school, waering black trenchcoats, shooting students and teachers along their way. Ms. McCarron explained that many people thought that terrorist attacks were caused by foreigners but also by American people.
I hope everyone had a great weekend, yes? This week our Terms List # 3 is due on Tuesday the 14th. Hopefully everyone is almost finished. We also have a quiz on Tuesday on the Terms List # 3. Make sure you study all 29 terms before the quiz. You may never know, we might have reading questions again. Ms. McCarron will hand us Part B of the Take Home test on Tuesday. That will be due on Thursday the 16th. Make sure you bring your lecture notebooks tomorrow because we will take notes.
