Monday, 9/20/10

E. Phelan, 2nd

Topic: Notes

Today we lectured on Castro and the Bay of Pigs, Khrushchev and Castro aligning so that Khrushchev could be close to America and push Kennedy around. Castro succeeded during the Bay of Pigs because he was waiting for the Cubans. We also talked about the Berlin wall. Khrushchev wanted Kennedy to pull out of Germany so no allied forces would be there but Kennedy said that he would not. Khrushchev thought that he could get away with his plan because he thought that Kennedy was a weak president because he was young and he thought that he could take advantage of Kennedy. Kennedy was blamed for the failures because they happened during his presidency.

Tomorrow we will take a quiz on terms list number 4 and will receive part three of our take home test. It will be due 9/23/10.

Topic: Analyzing a political cartoon

Today part 3 of our take home test was due.

Today we sketched a political cartoon in our notebooks. The cartoon was about the Cuban missile crisis that involved Kennedy, Khrushchev, and Castro. We LIEd about the cartoon. We talked about the cartoon and made literal statements and inferences about it for the whole period.

Remember we have a quiz on 9/28 so do not procrastinate.

Saturday 9/25/10 (posting about Friday (9/24/10)'s class)

L. Qiao, 2nd

Pages: Pg 880-881 of Chapter 28

Topic: Cuban Missile Crisis and the New Frontier

Today, we finished analyzing the Cuban Missile Crisis political cartoon. Then we talked about US's role in Cuba before the Cuban Missile Crisis, Kennedy's decisions involving the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Crisis’s result and aftermath. After class lectures, Ms. McCarron handed us each a ticket and a chart that listed the programs of the New Frontier. Each person's ticket had either a "goal" or an "effect" of one of the programs listed. We tried to find our associated "goal" or "effect", copy them down, and then find another pair of "goal" and "effect" and so on. We weren't able to finish the whole chart.

Reminders: ID Quiz#5 is next Tuesday (9/28/10), and the Terms List#5 (21 terms and 6 graphics) will be due on that day, too.

Sunday 9/26/10

L.Qiao, 2nd

Pages: Pg 879-881 of Chapter 28

Topic: Weekly overview

This week, we looked at Kennedy and the US's role and actions during the Cold War era. At first, when Khrushchev asserted his dominance by building the Berlin Wall, Kennedy had to take the blame for letting it happen. But in the Cuban Missile Crisis, when Kennedy and his advisors were able to prevent nuclear war, the President's status was elevated.
Next week, we will be talking about Kennedy's New Frontier, which included a variety of programs that pertains to both foreign and domestic matters. Don't forget to bring your The New Frontier goal and effect chart.

ID Quiz#5 is next Tuesday (9/28/10), and Terms List #5 will be due on the same day. Don't forget to read chapter 3 and 4!

Tina Phan, 2nd period
Hi guys! It's the second day of the week and we started off with correcting some capitalization and terms issues. Remember the correct capitalization is very important when talking about a certain term! Also remember to state the who or what when it comes to a people term. Lastly, terms should be spaced out, numbered and labeled correctly! Afterwards, we had our quiz for terms list #4 and continued our discussion on the Berlin Wall graphic.

Tina Phan, 2nd period
Hello guys! Today is Monday and we started off with playing around with google earth. We continued our lecture on Cuba and the Bay of Pigs. Then we started to talk a little about the Berlin wall. After that, we used LIE (Literal Interpret Extrapolate) on a political cartoon relating to the Berlin Wall. We spent the rest of the class period picking out all the literal aspects of the graphic. Remember that tomorrow we have a terms quiz for terms list #4! Have a good day!
