A. Pfund, period 2
Topic: Embargo Act, and other foriegn policies
We picked up a handout at the door entitled "Developing a Thesis Statement" on plain white paper, and turned in the History Fair question, thesis statement and blue ribbon outline. Remember that we have the terms list 12 quiz tomorrow. We drew a political cartoon, "OGRABME, or the American Snapping-turtle" about the Embargo Acts (Ograbme is "embargo" backwords) and then took at least a full, double-sided page of notes. France and Britian were not respecting our sovereignty or our neutrality, and are attacking our ships and impressing our sailors. Britian uses the excuse that the impressed were deserters from British ships, but France had no excuse. Jefferson was a great financial manager, reduces the army and debt, creates non-importation agreements and will likely support France in the war of 1812, because the Democratic-Republicans like France. The Federalists like England, and want to support it, but they are destroyed with the decision they made to ignore the war in the Hartford Convention. The war officially ended Dec. 24, 1814 with the Treaty of Ghent, but word didnt come back in time to stop the Battle of New Orleans, in which the U.S. dominated despite inferior numbers, training, weapons, and we had the low ground, but thanks to Jackson we won. The treaty stated "status quo, antebellum" meaning how it was before the war, but that would call it a tie, not a win/lose situation. The day was finished off with discussion on History Fair and how to improve upon our questions. We recieved out blue ribbons back, and the first five annotated bibliographies are due Thursday to Noodletools. I think I am forgetting something, but I can't for the life of me remember. Sorry.

Quiz Day! Quiz on Terms List #12; Ch. 13: "Immigration, Expansion, and Sectional Conflict, 1840-1848"
-TERMS NOTEBOOK WAS NOT COLLECTED-
The quiz was taken on paper and not on the clicker system. Remember, this quiz cannot be dropped so be sure to do well.

After the quiz, the class was told to read a DBQ that centered on the "Era of Good Feelings" and to write about what we knew about the "Era" and turn in it to Ms. McCarron after class (we were allowed to use our Terms notebook to help us.)

Reminder:
- DBQ Question & Blue Ribbon were due yesterday, Monday, Dec. 1.
- The Partial Annotated Bibliographies are due Thursday, Dec. 4 to Noodletools and you must have a minimum of 5 entries. Be sure to turn it in promptly.
- The whole sha-bang of the DBQ Project is due next week Thrusday, Dec. 11. Get excited!
- The scheduled semester exam day for our class is, get ready, Dec. 17! Whoo!

Today we did not collect or drop anything off at the door.
We began class by discussing and taking notes on the "Era of Good Feelings"
Mrs. McCarron then passed out a "document information sheet" for the documents we collected previous this week. A "document information sheet" is one of the pieces of our DBQ Project. (Due December 11th) It is essentially what we have been doing on our primary, secondary, and visual source sheets--differentiating between the content of the document and it's inferences.

Annotated bibliographies are due Thursday on noodletools(share)!!!!

A. Pfund, Period 2
We picked up two handouts: a sample DBQ essay and a Rubric whose guidelines we are supposed to follow in grading the essay and in creating a rubric for our DBQ's. Nothing was due at the door but our annotated bibliography is due tonight, a minimum of 5 entries. In class we copied the chart that we reviewed yesterday, the one that was made to look like an American Flag, titled "Nationalism Builds a Nation" and reviewing the Second Bank of the United States, National System of Roads and Canals, Tariff Act of 1816, Rush-Bagot Treaty, Convention of 1818, Adams-Onis Treaty, and the Monroe Doctrine. The Monroe Doctrine was embellished further by Mrs McCarron. We defined "Hemospheric Hegemony" (big brother tendency) and glossed over the impact of Mills to the Economy. Then we talked about the rubric and how we were going to use it. I think we were going to talk about it more, but then the bell rang.
