Blog for Monday, November 15, 2010

Hey guys!
Today in class we met in the media center to work on researching for history fair. We also learned how to use the online card catalog!
We turned in a Green Secondary Source Evidence Sheet and a Blue Visual Source Evidence Sheet. There was one handout that we picked up titled "The Clock is ticking- get busy!!!"
Start working on your Unit 3 test review because it's due thursday and keep up with your history fair assignments!

Topic: Review for Monday (11/15)'s blog entry

The blog for Monday was very comprehensive. I want to add that each person was suppose to find at least two sources in the media center online catalog, and most people checked out the sources they found. Also, we learned how to access media center resources at home. Overall, the commenter did a good job listing all the materials distributed and collected, due dates, and class activities

For Tuesday November 16th,2010.
We met in the media center again but we lectured and talked about Now Go To Instant Replay, in which we added the Greensville Program which was done in order to raise revenue. We talked more about the Navigation Acts and salutary neglect. Salutary neglect was when England did not have the energy to manage all the Navigation acts, so they were neglected. We also talked about how the people of England had to pay more than the colonies.

REMEMBER: UNIT TEST FRIDAY! Make sure to study and if possible, do the online review session. The time has not yet been mentioned.

The commenter did a thorough job summarizing the lectures. The last few reminders are also very helpful. I want to all that the Unit 3 Test review sheet and timeline will be due on Friday, too.

For Wednesday November 17,2010.

Today we talked mostly about the confusions and misunderstandings with history fair. We also changed some due dates for source sheets and the graphic organizer. For those of you who don't know, the Unit Test has been switched to THIS FRIDAY NOVEMBER 19, 2010. The review session will be Thursday night from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. If you are lost, confused, or just wanting to clarify some things, make sure to get in on the review Ms.McCarron does. She does take out an hour of her own time to do this, so use it to your advantage. About history fair: YOU CAN NOT TAKE A QUOTE FROM A BOOK ABOUT YOUR TOPIC AND POST IT AS A PRIMARY SOURCE WHEN IT WAS NOT ORIGINALLY QUOTED IN THE BOOK TO BEGIN WITH. That is not classified as a primary source. Also, if you read your lovely lavender packet you would notice that there is a graphic organizer do this Friday November 19,2010 along with a secondary source evidence sheet and then on Tuesday Novemeber 23,2010 two primary sources are also due. However, Ms.McCarron has made a few changes due to our Unit Test on Friday and ID Terms Quiz on Tuesday. 3 Sources will be do on Monday November 22,1010 along with the graphic organizer. The three source sheets need to be of ones you have not turned in yet. Ex: If you turned in a primary source and visual source on Monday then you need to turn in 2 secondary sources and 1 primary, etc. If you are confused about anything related to history fair, go see Ms.McCarron and ask for clarification. We have exactly two weeks and three days til this is due and after next week, you can no longer change your topic. One last thing with history fair, if you turn in your correct noodle tools bibliography by Wednesday November 24th, 2010 it will take place of a late history fair assignment.

After the discussion of history fair, we had six minutes left in class. We talked more about the stamp tax. It is a direct and internal tax, meaning it is within borders and you have to pay the tax directly then. However, tariffs are external and indirect taxes. Parliament does end up repealing the stamp act and then they issue a declaratory act.

Topic: Lecture- Rising tension between Britain and the colonies.

Today, we took notes on the actions taken by the British that angered colonists in the 1760s and 1770s. These include the Townshend Duties, which was a tariff on goods imported to the colonies such as paper, tea, lead, glass, and paint. These acts caused popular outcry and were repealed except for the tea act. Upset by the tea act's interference in their affairs the Sons of Liberty raided three ships in Boston harbor and emptied their contents in an act known as the Boston Tea Party.

We also talked about the Boston Massacre and writs of assistance that contributed to the strained relationship between the colonist and England.

We turned in the allegories we made to answer the DBQ question from last week and the accompanying description sheet.

Don't forget that tomorrow is our unit test on terms lists 6-7 and our timelines and review sheets are due. Tonight is the nicenet review for the test. Good luck

Rachel Shaeffer- Review on Wednesday's Blog
This blog was very helpful especially for those struggling with history fair. It included information from the entire classs not just a specific part and was detailed up to the minutes left in class. Also the changed due dates are very important. I found the blog to be quite excellent and a great reference for future questions.

Rachel Shaeffer- Reviewer (Thursday)
The explanation of the lecture was very thoroughand the blogger remembered to include that the test is tomorrow and the review for the test is tonight. I liked that he put a topic at the top to help you understand it. The only thing he forgot was that the notebook is due tomorrow as well but that is mentioned in previous entries. Overall it was very well done and very punctual.

Unfortunately, the weekend is just about over and there are somethings to finish before class tommorow. For history fair, there are two primary sources and a secondary source sheet due tommorow. Additionally, the Debate and Diplomacy in History Graphic Organizer is due. Try to get ahead on your terms for Chapter 13 because they are due Tuesday and we will have a quiz on them. Remember to keep up with your sources for history fair because they are due by Thanksgiving for extra credit!
