Today in class we completed the worksheet week got after the last terms quiz. For this worksheet we had to use the American Issues book to compare the economic difficulties of farmers in the New South and the New West. Ms. McCarron lectured a little bit regarding this topic, too.
THINGS TO DO: -Start Terms List #18. -Bring in money if you want a Review Book
Ms. McCarron spoke of how the nation was beginning to change from an agrarian lifestyle to a lifestyle centered more around industrialization.
Also, Ms. McCarron collected money for review books. So if you want one - BRING IN your money!
***TERMS QUIZ 18 on THURSDAY***

Christopher Weeden 2nd Period Wednesday March 3, 2010
Today in class we talked about the political cartoon by Thomas Nast which described how the Indians were being kept away from the Polls and how when you flip the image, the policeman becomes left-handed which is frowned upon in many cultures. We ended the class period guessing the ethnicity of each person in the cartoon.
Remember: Terms Quiz #18 tomorrow! Also the next terms for #19 are due on next Tuesday at the moment, but that may change. In addition, bring in money if you still want to purchase a review book.
Today was the nefarious quiz day!!! We successfully passed the stapler around and no one had to get embarassed for messing up, go 2nd hour! Woo! So also we briefly touched down on the FCAT thingymajig going on next week and were reminded TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY FOR APUSH STUDY BOOK MONEY!!!
So bring it in!
Also: Tonight Lincoln Lacrosse played Leon (boo). JV won 6-4; V lost 5-6 in an edge of your seat battle during the last 59 seconds! But we will conquer next week like the Union conquered the Confederacy! Go Trojans!
Christopher Weeden 2nd Period Friday March 5, 2010
Today in class, Ms. McCarron started by deleting her powerpoint presentation, but somehow we got it back or she used a different one. We took notes on how the Indians were being closed into territory that was hard land to farm and how flawed the treatment of the Indians was by the government. We also talked about 5 terms that are relevant to the Indians.
Remember: The next set of terms are due Tuesday and next week is FCAT week. Also David will me a capable Indian on Monday after being incapable today.
J. Rosenthal I apologize for this being so late. Hopefully it will help some in their review efforts.
Reviewing for Chris Weeden 3/3/10. You nailed it, Chris. The class period info was spot on. Details about the terms due tomorrow: Chapter 20 pg. 609-639. Don't forget! Otherwise, read Chris's blog. It helped.
Reviewing for Ally Saltford 3/4/10. Excellent job, Ally. The FCAT thingymajig we talked about was the schedule for the FCAT, which periods we would go to for each day, as well as excused half-days for the juniors (if you filled out the form and are doing something educational).
Reviewing for Chris Weeden 3/5/10 Your description was good, Chris. You went into detail about the lecture. Here are the "5 terms" we discussed: 1.Ethnocentrism-belief that your ethnic group is number one 2.Xenophobia-fear of foreigners; those who are different 3.Nativisim-belief that the native group is the best group (in the case of the U.S., the W.A.S.P.s) 4.Paternalism-governing peoples in a fatherly way (Indians because they were considered uncivilized) 5. Assimilation-adoption of a different culture, the dominant culture of the community (the U.S. tried to do this to the Indians through the Dawes Act of 1887). Otherwise, Chris pretty much got it.
Sunday, March 7 No one blogged for this Sunday, so I will share my information. Grossman, Havlicak, Menchetti, and Mindlin need to remember to blog this week. Terms List #19 is due this Tuesday: Chapter 21 "The Progressive Era" pg. 641-674. Also, FCAT is this week. The schedule for attending classes is: Tuesday-remember to come to APUSH for 5th period right after lunch! You don't want to miss quiz 19. Wednesday-Also a late day for juniors (where applicable) Thursday-Juniors report at 7:30 (though I would suggest getting there early) for FCAT Science.
