Today in class we sketched out a political cartoon and talked about it throughout the whole period. The political cartoon dealt with the Articles of Confederation. Tomorrow we have a quiz on terms list #10.
In class today, we sketched a new political cartoon in our notebooks about the states and their willingness to follow the Articles of Confederation and where they would lead. We have a quiz on terms list 10 tomorrow (Tuesday). This quiz is important because whatever you get on your quiz will count for your notebook grade also, but Ms. McCarron will still check notebooks for a backup grade. Remember, next week is thanksgiving!!
Tuesday, 11/17 Megan White, 2nd per. Quiz Today in class, we took our quiz for terms list #10(ch. 9-10). We had "study time" in which we categorized the terms to better understand and connect them together- some categories included "Indian-related", "politicians", etc. Then we turned in our terms notebooks after talking about how we categorized the terms. For the remainder of the class, we worked on the "party men" that we received while Ms. McCarron was out, along with the Articles of Confederation essay handout. Our homework is to have the party men finished in addition to having the essay ("The Critical Period": 1781-1789)read by class tomorrow. We also have our Primary source evidence sheet due Thursday! No dates have been changed, and a test date for the next unit has not been determined, but is expected to be on Tuesday, December 1st.
Today in class we took our terms quiz #10 which consisted of chapters 9 and 10. Before we took the quiz, we categorized the terms to better understand and to prepare for the quiz. After the quiz Ms. McCarron told us to have our Party Men sheets done in our notebooks by tomorrow and to have read the "Critical Period". Tomorrow we also have progress reports. 5 more days of school until thanksgiving break :).
Today in clas we finished up the political cartoon with the "U.S.A. Articles of Confederation" boat heading for anarachy with Congress at the back steering it. With this we made inferences and developed a meaning for this political cartoon. Also, we spoke a lot about the states in America. Ms. McCarron thoroughly went through what they were like during and right after the revolution. Read the sample essay if you have yet to do that. Also, it would be a good idea to get a head start on Terms List #11, considering your notebook grade IS your quiz grade.
Today in class we went over the meaning of the Articles of Confederation political cartoon and how the Articles were both a success and failure. We talked about how new states were to come into the United States as this was a big issue on the ratification of the Articles. You should have already read the sample essay and completed the party men, but if you haven't you should do them. Also, a source sheet is due tomorrow.
Today in class we had another discussion based off of a political cartoon which included the Mt. Vernon, Annapolis, and Philadelphia Conventions. Also, Ms. McCarron spoke about the three branches of the U.S. government and one didn't gain too much power through checks and balances. Finally at the last minute of class, Ms. McCarron told us how some states saying they were above the constitution would soon lead to Civil War.
For homework, just complete your terms and study them to the best of your ability. Have a great Friday and weekend!
The primary source sheet for the DBQ for history fair was due today. In class we took notes on governments under the Articles of Conferderation. We drew a political cartoon of the three conventions that led to the Constitution.
Remember that ID Terms#11 is due next Tuesday. The quiz grade will be the terms notebook grade.
Friday, 11/20 - Saturday, 11/21 Megan White, 2 Friday in class we talked about the Federalists (who wanted to get rid of the Articles of Confederation) vs. the Antifederalists (who were for mending the Articles of Confederation). We also discussed where each "party" was located in the nation, and went on to talk about domestic issues in Washington's first administration, including the requirements for a new government (cabinet), a bill of rights, and the need to make a capitalist economy. Then we did a small activity where we were split up into 2 groups and compared our "Part Men" with three other classmates. At the end of class, we began making a cause-and-effect cahrt/timeline on a "fish-bone-diagram," with which the intern explained the Treaty of Alliance and French-British War-> Neutrality proclamatio, and began talking about Jay's Treaty. Our homework for the weeki=end is to do terms list # 11 (due Tuesday** notebook grade = quiz grade...STUDY), to make a visual source for the History Fair DBQ assignment (due Monday), and to "fix" the Articles of Confederation DBQ we wrote from last week, using our notebooks, the example essay, and anything else we've learned. --this is not to be retyped; Ms. McCarron wants to see our essays written all over, stuff scratched out, etc. Two day week nest week!! have a great weekend!
Over the weekend, we were supposed to edit our Articles of Confederation essays. The marked up copy will be turned in Monday. Do not retype the essay. A Source Evidence Sheet for History Fair is also due tomorrow. We have the ID Terms #11 quiz on Tuesday. The terms are in chapters 9 and 10. Study hard because the grade you receive for your terms notebook is determined by your quiz grade.
